Too much has already been said about Olmert's corruption. But before I head off for vacation, one observation on how the latest allegations about double- (triple- and quadruple-) billing have changed the picture. Until now Olmert seemed hugely corrupt. Now he just seems small and petty. Small and petty is worse.

Seldom has a man of so few convictions, deserved so many.

What about all these institutions that he double billed? I know for a fact that one of them (an important right-wing yeshiva) knew about it in real time but didn't blow the whistle on Olmert because at the time he was "unser"

We all are guilty of the forgiving "unser"-types as long as they were stealing or lying for our interests.

I am disgusted with myself for supporting Sharon's war in Lebanon. However, Gush Katif proved to us that it is wrong to overlook criminal activity because someone who acts like this will turn against his supporters easily.
