As a matter of fact, I have BS and MS degrees in Meteorology. I went into a different line after I graduated and have been out of the loop for many years, but I do know that the General Circulation Models they use for predicting what the weather and climate will be if we do things like increase the CO2 in the atmosphere are filled with all sorts of unverifiable fudge factors. We know that earth's climate has fluctuated a lot within human history long before mankind had any sort of signficant impact on the environment. Around the years 1000-1200 there was a very warm period which enabled the Vikings to settle Greenland (which was called "Green") and get to North America. It was followed by the "Little Ice Age" which reduced agricultural output leading to decline in nutrition for the population, weakening people, making them vulnerable to things like the Black Plague. C02 output has been increasing for over a century and yet 30 years ago the "Al Gores" of the world were warning of another ice age! As far as I am concerned, althought the world is warming up recently, it is FAR to soon to attribute this to CO2 output and to this spend TRILLIONS of dollars preventing something that may not even be problem, and this would be mostly at the expense of the poorest countries.

ReplyDeletebesides, shouldn't we all try to reduce our carbon footprint even if the numbers are exaggerated?
